Dear Friends,
We are pleased to invite you to the 2nd Congress of the European Green Party, which will be held in Geneva, 13-14 October 2006.
The Congress is followed by a Council meeting on Sunday morning, 15th October 2006. If we get proposals to hold workshops these will be organised on Sunday morning, parallel to the council meeting.
On Friday 13th October, before Congress, from 09.00 till 17.00 you can attend the "fringe meetings" of the regional networks and the "established" working groups.
You can find all information on how to register and arrange your accommodation in the "practical information". Please take note of the several deadlines. (reservation through Tourist Office: preferably before 1st September - reservation through EGP office: 8th September - Congress registration: 25th September)
The main goal of the congress will be to agree on a common vision on
After the NO on the draft EU Constitution in France and the Netherlands, we need to draw the path for a Green future for Europe.
In a time in which climate change is accelerating, the energy crisis knocks on our doors, the European social model is at stake and now more than ever a response has to be given to globalization; we Greens need to exchange views and enhance our cooperation towards action oriented politics.
Since the beginning of this year, in preparation of the congress, a working group has been drafting the resolution "Future of Europe".
The draft resolution is sent to the parties and the WG calls for amendments, which can be sent until 11th September. A set of working rules can be found in the congress regulations. At the same time, during this congress, we wish to adopt a new Green Charter of Principles, in order to replace the outdated 1993 Guiding Principles.
We will deal with the "normal" resolutions during the council meeting on Sunday morning. Deadline for these is one month before council, which is 15th September. After that date you will need the support of five member parties when submitting topical and emergency resolutions.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Geneva, with a lot of enthusiasm and engagement!
Juan Behrend
Secretary General
